What a fun music post! Another fun drumming style inspired by drum machines is the "Dilla groove" where you play pretty significantly ahead of and behind the beat, but not so much as to make it a subdivision. My drummer friends have tried to explain it to me in terms of triplet subdivisions but I still don't really get that. I've always understood Chris Dave to be one of the main drummers that imported this technique into jazz. It's one of my favorite grooves.
