Farmers’ markets are my favorite part of living in California. East Coast aficionados claim that California doesn’t have seasons, but our seasons are marked by the modulating palettes of the farm stands. And late summer farmers’ markets might be my favorite farmers’ markets. This is when you get the best stone fruit, the best greens, the best heirloom tomatoes.
My favorite thing to do with those tomatoes is make a salad I learned from a vendor in Pasadena. It’s the only dish in my repertoire that doesn’t require any measurement. Take the best cucumber, tomato, and peppers you find at the market. Chop them bite-sized pieces. Add some cilantro. Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top. Salt to taste. You’ll need much more than a pinch.
This salad goes with everything. I could eat that entire bowl. Enjoy your Saturday everyone.
But so here's my question, do you find yourself *full* when you eat this? I love this kind of salad too but I always feel like, OK, that was great, but I still have to make something for lunch.
